Founded in the 1970s by Lutz Mommartz, the film class has since accompanied, considered, and reflected on the development of visual media. The transition from analog film to digital video, from narrative narrative structure to nonlinear hypertext, is not a technical one-way street here, but rather a correlated field of tension that remains open to interactions and networking of all kinds to this day. In this sense, the y is conceived as a free variable, an unspecified uncertainty factor that keeps the system alive—in whatever form.
